Bring back the draft, says Jesse Jackson, Jr. & other Democrats Release date: October 12, 2004 Contact: Joy Bergmann, ![]() For print-friendly format in Word, click here Dismayed by the Democrats’ support of the draft reinstatement, today Stephanie Kennedy Sailor, U.S. Congressional candidate, 2nd District, IL, confirmed her opposition of forced military conscription. ”Jesse Jackson, Jr. thinks it’s ok for government to force men to fight its wars,” states Kennedy Sailor, in disagreement of her Congressional opponent’s latest co-sponsorship of HR 163, a bill calling for draft reinstatement. Though the bill was defeated last week, Kennedy Sailor warns of the reality behind radical politicians and their radical agendas. ”Fanatics in Congress want to coerce men into uniform, forcing them to invade other countries, carry guns, and kill people.” Full details of HR 163, a bill introduced solely by Democrats, can be viewed by clicking here. The draft reinstatement bill runs in stark contrast of the concept self-ownership, a consistent theme in the Stephanie Kennedy Sailor campaign. ”The fact that a bill of such militant measures was even considered by Congress should send a message to the public: government officials think they own you,” states Kennedy Sailor. ”You own yourself. The government doesn’t own you. Nor do Democrats, Jesse Jackson, Jr., or any other elected official, period,” states Kennedy Sailor. Kennedy Sailor, who comes from a military family, supports voluntary military enlistment instead of coerced conscription. She points out how the privileged elite -- including elected officials -- have the luxury of opting out of military service. ”Draft or no draft, elite elected officials have historically left it to the poor or minorities to do the dirty work of war,” says Kennedy Sailor. ”While the privileged upper class heads off to college, those less fortunate head off to the military.” Stephanie Kennedy Sailor is an independent cyber candidate, running an internet-based campaign on $0.
